Message from the Chairman
I am honored to have been selected by the practitioners of the geothermal industry in Alberta to sit at this year’s Chairman of the Board. There have been some great individuals that have already occupied this position in the past that have made remarkable inroads for this industry… that being said, this year in particular will most likely be the year that becomes known as the year development of the Geothermal Energy industry in Alberta. With a strong underlying grass roots movement towards renewable energy system, Geothermal Energy remains a strong and suitable candidate for many types of building applications. The strong demand for the geothermal energy in Alberta has generated a need for quality control and training initiatives for practitioners in the industry from Engineering consultants to ground system installers... educators and industry alike have responded. The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology has finalized it’s development of their Advanced Energy Diploma Program that has a significant Technical level design course for the Geothermal Design course component. Also, to shore up the capabilities and quality of the drilling practice a new “Earth Loop Technician” trade has been created under the current Alberta Water Well Drillers Apprenticeship Program. Such programs and industry development help ensure that geothermal continues to be a trusted and stable renewable energy source for generations to come.
The Alberta Geothermal Energy Association would like to welcome any practitioner in the Geothermal field to become involved in the association and help mold the future of the industry in Alberta and across Canada.
